One of the most important dates of the Gsieser Jubilee promises to be the 2013 European Ski-Marathon Championships, in which all Euroloppet-pass holders are entitled to participate.

Gsiesertal Lauf – 30th edition – uninterrupted since 1984  – a total of 46.500 finishers  – the biggest South Tyrolean popular cross-country event and the second-largest in Italy  – The Event is a member of EUROLOPPET  -  Check out our various booking packages

The coverband “Egon 7” will entertain you on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon the successful “Bergdiamanten” from the Gsieser valley will take over.  We have made arrangements in this way for the right atmosphere!

With the italian stars Giorgio di Centa, Pietro Piller Cottrer, Christian Zorzi and Sabina Valbusa there are 11 olympic medal winners ( 4 gold – 4 silver – 3 bronze ) at the start.

Trail conditions:
with over 50 cm of natural snow, this year promises outstanding conditions for both styles.

Car park:
right next to the start/finish area. There are also 300 free parking spaces available for camper vans.

Chip:
chips are issued free of charge to participants. Chips must be returned to the organisers in the finish area after each race.
NB: participants who do not finish must also return their chips in the finish area.

Photo service:
Marathon-Photos will be taking up to five photos of each participant. Our homepage gives details of how to order your photos.

New:
as from this year, the changing rooms, WCs and showers are located in the basement of the St. Martin general purpose hall.

Waxing tip:
the official waxing recommendation can be found on our homepage www.valcasies.com from 09 a.m. on 17th February.

Super Tom is all ready:
World-class German skier Tom Reichelt, winner of the Gsiesertal Lauf in 2009 and 2010, will surely be one of the biggest challengers to Italian stars Roland Clara and Thomas Moriggl (reigning champion).

Camper vans:
Owing to the large demand, please note that the large car park (centrally located in the start/finish area) offers 300 free parking spaces for camper vans.

Combined scoring:
All participants competing in both techniques will this year for the first time automatically appear in the combined scoring. There will be separate prize-giving ceremonies (no age classification) as well as individual scores and diplomas.

Photo service:
The 10-strong team from Marathon-Photos will again this year be accompanying the participants. A total of around 10,000 photos will be produced and, following the event, our homepage will give details of how to order your photos.

Snowshoers can for the first time this year join in the “Just for Fun” group (no timing). 

Top stars in the starting line-up:
Classic Race:   Title-holder Bruno Debertolis and the 2009 victor Thomas Steuerer from Austria. The top favourite is however Odd Björn Hjelmeset from Norway, five times world champion, two times Olympic medal winner and eight times World Cup winner.

Skating Race:   Title-holder Thomas Moriggl and last year’s number two, Roland Clara. Both are currently among Italy’s best cross-country skiers. Biathlon king Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (winner of the Gsiesertal Lauf Race 2001) is considering using the “Gsieser” to train for the upcoming Biathlon World Championships.

Catering:
if you were to line up all of the apple strudel to be consumed with the Gsieser 4-star menu, it would be 250 metres in length!! But that‘s not all: at the five catering outlets and for lunch there will be served 150 kg of citrus fruits, 200 kg of bananas, 120 kg of dried fruit, 8,000 servings of grape sugar, 4,000 portions of isotonic drinks, 1,000 litres of vegetable broth, 8,000 servings of fruit tea, 3,000 Marlene apples and a total of 350 kg of pork fillet.

The safety of all participants,
volunteers and spectators (totalling some 6,000 persons) is the main concern of the organisers. So in summer, following considerable study and thought, we prepared our own emergency plan. It involves the following: the official emergency doctor, Dr Wolfgang Luns, the White Cross (ambulances), the helicopter team of the financial police and the three voluntary fire brigades of the Gsieser valley.

Snowshoe walking on the Gsiesertal Lauf!
In today’s fast-living times the customers’ wishes are of the utmost importance, even for we sports organisers. In response to the many requests received, we are offering snowshoe lovers the chance to experience the inimitable panache of the Gsieser Tal Lauf. The race comes under the “Just for Fun” category (skating races on Sunday 19th February 2012 – food included). The stretch is 10km in length. Snowshoes can be rented from the info stand at the target area.

Artificial snow making has started according to plan.  Find more information on the opening of the first piste kilometres (provided after December 10th) on our website.

Combined scoring: The coming edition will for the first time feature a combined individual scoring system (30 km CT/FT women and men, 42 km CT/FT women and men) with certificates, prize-giving, etc. –
